Okay, they look kinda like boobs, but my head is possibly in the gutter.
This is, of course, Interlocking Balloons from the ever-popular Scarf Style. I absolutely freaking love this pattern. And can I tell you how much I love the Misti Alpaca yarn I’m using? I think it might be my new favorite yarn. It’s so buttery that I keep expecting to have to wipe my hands on it. And it’s SO SOFT. You know how girl knitters sometimes walk around with a skein of yarn tucked into their blouse to see how it feels against sensitive skin? A certain someone put a skein of this in his pants, then requested that I please knit him some underwear with it.
I’ll consider it.
I’m sort of in a crabby mood today. Must be the weather or something. Anyway, this is probably a good way to start out Project Spectrum with its blue/gray/white theme.
Here’s the fabric I bought for my sewing class project. We’ll see how it turns out. I’m dubious.
I think I’d like a nice big Mai Tai when Nathan gets home. That’ll perk me right up.
Midol and a Singapore Sling as big as your head.
Mew! It’s a precious kittun!
In other news, I took a break from the purple shawl of doom to work on the Interlocking Balloons scarf which has been languishing since LAST MAY. I am going to hell. Anyway, it’s awfully nice knitting up some big fat Misti Alpaca after plodding away on the Zephyr. NOT that I don’t love me some hot Jaggerspun action, but silk, she ain’t so sproingy. It’s like sucking down some stuffed canneloni after dieting on angel hair pasta.
Yum yum yum. We have the WHOLE WEEKEND off. I am so ready to slug.
So here it is, practically February, and I haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions. However, this month’s Self-Portrait Challenge, which I’d resolved to be better at doing, is all about (wait for it) New Year’s Resolutions.
I’m a chronic resolution-breaker, so here are some things I’d LIKE to do:
1. Knit my fucking stash. I have not achieved SABLE, but I could do a boatload of knitting with what I’ve got.
I think you all know how well this is going to turn out. You were all right, I DID buy yarn yesterday. But it was just one skein! And it called to me! Really! I heard voices!
Seriously. How was I supposed to resist? It’s Yarn Place’s Graceful. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it. There’s 2400 yards, so I could do just about anything in Victorian Lace Today, or I might do the Icarus shawl from the summer ‘06 IK. However…this yarn is yellow.
2. I might have to wait to knit it until April. The first cluster of colors in Project Spectrum 2.0 is blue/white/gray. Hmph.
3. I had this crazy idea that I might stick my toe into the dark side of fiber arts - crochet - but ONLY to do lace collars, but instead I’ve signed up for a sewing class. Nathan’s Faire clothes wound up needing a lot of mending last year, and they’re so nice, I feel like they ought to be mended properly from now on. And, boy, would it be nice to be able to actually MAKE a costume. Also, I’d like to learn blackwork. It seems reasonably do-able, but I have a lot on my learning plate.
4. Lose some damned weight. This is not optional. The reasons are myriad. My current weight is not healthy, I feel like a slug, I have an important dress to buy, and ISM isn’t going to want a third set if I don’t de-fatttenize myself.
5. Be a better photographer. Shoot more, blog more. I’ve actually been pretty good about the shooting part. I just haven’t blogged so much. The pictures I’ve been taking are mostly on eBay.
6. See?
7. Write more poetry. I wrote a bit last year, and I enjoyed it immensely. I’ve found that poems of upheaval and yearning are easier to write than poems of stability. But I’m always up for a challenge.
That seems like enough for the moment. I’ve already walked to the post office this morning to mail some jewelry I sold, so maybe I’m not off to such a bad start.
I went to the yarn store today to get stitch markers AND ONLY stitch markers. I succeeded in my quest.
Discuss.
Ever have one of those days when you don’t want to do ANYTHING? Yeah, me too. I am so bored I don’t even want to watch TV.
I did do some knitting on the shawl of doom:
Isn’t unblocked lace FASCINATING? Even though I’m about to get to the part of the pattern repeat that’s the easy part, I don’t feel like knitting.
I also listed a really cool piece of jewelry on eBay:
But that’s the only thing I listed today because I’m too bored. I also don’t want to do the laundry, pack the suitcase, do the dishes, read, make something for lunch, surf the web, or go pick up the cleaning. (Actually, I do want to go pick up the cleaning, but I’m stuck here waiting for the UPS man.)
Maybe I’ll play some poker.
for no apparent reason, a picture of me taking a picture of me.
And now onto the 4th hour of 24. How much do you love Chloe’s ex-husband? They are the greatest couple EVER.
p.s. No, I have not changed my clothes since yesterday.
Just watched the first hour. Pausing for much-needed drinkie.
Boy, the Mac expo was fun. And those Your Mac Life people sure know how to throw a party!
I’m going back to bed now.
