Catchup

I'm back from the Frozen North, we closed Scapino!, we're rehearsing Our Town, and I'm sick as a dog.

Film at eleven.

Greetings from scenic Northfield, Minnesota! It's like, really cute and stuff. But DAMN, it's cold. Good thing I brought lots of hats.

code id by dose

Who knew it would suck so much to have to go onstage with a head cold? Man, every time I came off stage last night I almost passed out. And I get to go on again tonight! And again tomorrow! And I have rehearsal tomorrow after my matinee! And after rehearsal I have a midnight flight to Minnesota!
Whooooo!

I love NyQuil in the fall
I love NyQuil in the summer when it sizzles
I love NyQuil in the winter when it drizzles

Can't have everything

I had a great weekend, and now I've got an absolutely wretched cold. My head feels like it's about to explode.

Here are some cool things that happened this weekend:

  • Amy came to see the show
  • Rob and TiVo people came to see the show
  • My parents came to see the show
  • Rob and I saw "The Incredibles", which was outstanding
  • We had "Practice Thanksgiving" at my parents' house yesterday
  • We had early birthday presents (got cool stuff from the Orlanders and the Broadway book from Margar (I think this must have come last Monday while the maids were here, because I found it on the chair in the library)
  • Mom taught me how to knit

It was great. Too bad I have a cold now.

Happy Birthday, Rob!

AUGH!

All My Children is being pre-empted completely for local news PRE-coverage of the verdict in the stupid stupid stupid Peterson trial. There's apparently a verdict that they will announce at 1:00. SO WHY do they have to pre-empt AMC? There's no actual news! (Not that this case should be "news" anyway.) Pre-empt One Life to Live at 1:00!

What's the matter with these people? I HATE local news.

Okay, now I have to figure out how smart TiVo is. I scanned through this recording and they claim they're putting this episode on at 2:00. Should I do a manual recording? Or should I just record today's episode of General Hospital, which will really be AMC? I guess I could do both, I do have two tuners.

Some song lyrics have just popped into my head: "Why do we always come here? I guess we'll never know. It's like a kind of torture to have to watch this show..."

Spurt of Productivity

I actually got quite a bit of stuff done yesterday. In addition to playing the Sims, I went to the store and got vital things like laundry soap, then came home and made a great big pot of black bean soup. While the soup was cooking, I went to the gym. Then I came home and made plane and hotel reservations for New Year's. Rob and I devoured the soup while we caught up on Jon Stewart, Jeopardy, West Wing (oh, boy, Kristin Chenoweth!), Smallville, then watched the new Survivor and E.R. (Wow, that looks like a lot of TV.)

Several hours into this marathon, I made a chocolate cake thingy from the new Fine Cooking Holiday Baking issue. The first bite didn't thrill me that much, but then Rob made me put a little glob of butter on the top. DAMN, it was good. I just had a little slice of it with my coffee for breakfast, and it has improved immeasurably.

Today I need to go to Moon Zoom. I talked to Abbie yesterday and it was like 25 degrees in MN. I don't want to freeze during Thanksgiving week. I have a winter coat, but I've had it since we lived in Seattle, and I'm getting sick of it. Moon Zoom has stacks of cheap-ish vintage coats.

But FIRST, I have to watch AMC. Bianca had better get her baby back soon, or I really am going to stop watching the show.

far too much to take in

So I've read a couple of snarky reviews of "The Lion King". All I have to say to the people who claim they didn't like it is: JEALOUS MUCH?

It was so freaking amazing. Yeah, there were places where it could have been tightened up, but it was the most incredible spectacle I've ever seen. The opening scene was three minutes of pure, unadulterated joy. The only thing that would have made it better would have been the presence of Margar and my sisters.

Outrageous Accents

Today we drove up to the City to look at lofts. Everything was expensive, nothing was terribly appealing, and it took freaking forever to get up there. Stupid *#&^% Bay Bridge traffic.

Then we drove all the way down to San Jose to attend Alain and Jennifer's housewarming party. They just bought a fabulous old Craftsman house in Willow Glen. Rob and I were green with envy. We sat out on the porch with the TiVo contingent and eavesdropped on all of the French-speakers. It was great fun. Alain tried to make us all fat and drunk, but I only had a couple of beers because I am never drinking again.

Now we are sitting here waiting for TiVo to rearrange a season pass for us. SOMEHOW, Celebrity Poker Tour was higher priority than Malcolm in the Middle, so we didn't get the new episode. Grrrrr.

I'm never drinking again

My head hurts. Mr. Tanqueray is no longer my friend. We went to Kelly's after the show and I sort of overdid it. Troy and David and Dirk had to chase me down the streets of Alameda and sober me up by forcing me to eat tacos from Jack In The Box. I was pretty belligerent about it at the time, but it WAS a good idea. Thanks, guys.

We've been doing Mad Libs backstage. Last night I filmed (badly) a reading.

Warning: this video is sort of obscene.

Go Canucks!

Maybe there's hope after all. At least for the single folks, anyway. Thanks, SFist, for perking up my morning.

In non-get-the-hell-out-of-dodge news, the "Our Town" read-through was last night. I was very, very pleased with it. Most people had just gotten their scripts and were reading cold, but they were already going in the right direction. Best of all, our George and Emily are ideal. They look right, sound right, and they have wonderful chemistry. Troy is, of course, going to be wonderful, and I'm delighted with the rest of the cast.

Maybe there is hope.

Even A Yugo Could Outrun the RCMP!

Aw, crap. Canada doesn't want us. Thanks for bursting my bubble, Elisa.

Wonder if I should brush up on "God Save the Queen" instead. I hear New Zealand is very nice.

We Stand on Guard For Thee

So the only funny part about last night: At about two (I don't even know what time it was), the TiVo at Kevin and Rachel's house warned us that it was about to switch from CNN to fuzzily record "That's So Raven".

We let it switch.

I actually know all the words to the Canadian national anthem. Do you think that's enough to qualify for citizenship?
