Yes, un Tannenbaum!
I'm like, in the Christmas mood and stuff. The tree is up and there are fabulously decorated presents under it. See?
My shopping is about 80 percent done. I need to go to the cigar place, a bookstore, and Beltramo's. Also, I'm out of Christmas pins to put on the presents, and I don't have ANY stocking stuffers for Ethan. And I need to finish the purple scarf and Rob's infernal hat.
For as long as we've been together, Rob's Christmas stocking has been a blue and white striped stocking cap that I'd gotten at J. Crew. He's been asking me to make a new one, since the existing one doesn't hold a lot of loot. So I found a pattern in the slightly snotty Hollywood Knits book. I started with some cheap-ass yarn and cheap-ass needles, but it made me crazy. Yesterday we went to the fancy yarn store so I could get some nice bamboo needles, and Rob found a bin full of 100% baby alpaca yarn. It is the softest substance in the world, and it is an absolute joy to knit with. I altered the pattern slightly because the yarn's thicker than the pattern calls for, and now I'm paying for it by having to make a lot of crazy calculations. AND I made a big mistake that I saw way too late and therefore had to undo about twelve rows. Sigh. If it turns out, it really will be an old-fashioned Christmas miracle.

My sister-in-law knitted me an amazing blanket out of apalca yarn as a wedding present. She said she wanted to use cashmere, but that it would have cost thousands, so she decided on apalca. It's so soft and beautiful, it's hard to imagine actually using it and potentially hurting it!

Ooh, your presents are much prettier than my presents are going to be. (Liam and the cats would just mess up anything too nice, so I've sort of given up.)
I'm mildly annoyed about stocking stuffers at the moment, as our sainted aunt told Mum just yesterday (12 days before Christmas!) that she wasn't planning to do stockings this year, and of course, I'd already gotten hers (several of them months ago, in fact). *sigh* Oh, well, Mum and Yvonne's stockings will be particularly well-stuffed, I guess.
