Well, hardly ever

After having our usual Sunday morning breakfast of Chana Bhatura at Spice Hut, I coaxed Rob into taking me up to Berkeley so I could check out the sale at Article Pract.

Everything I wanted, namely the Malabrigo and the incredibly scrumptious Inca Cotton, was NOT on sale. The guy there was not very helpful and seemed annoyed when I asked him if the Malabrigo was on sale. They have really amazing stuff there, but this is twice that they've been less than friendly. I think I'll get my Malabrigo online from now on.

Later, however, I coerced Rob into letting me go into Stash, which was lovely! Stephanie will be appearing here on her west coast tour, and I wanted to see if I needed to make a reservation. The completely and totally charming girl working there looked at me thoughtfully when I asked about it, and said "do you think we're going to need to do that?" I pointed out that Stephanie wasn't going to appear anywhere else in the Bay Area (or NoCal), and she said "Hmmmmm, maybe you're right", and looked critically at the tables that were going to have to be moved to make room for the drooling hordes. So I signed up for their mailing list and asked her to let me know if they were going to do reservations.

Anyway, it was a great place. I knew I was in the Right Sort of place when I saw Kathy's Adrienne Vittadini sweater all knitted up in the window, and hanging on the wall was Clapotis made of Lorna's Laces. It was so delicious that it made me re-think my decision to Neuharth* Clapotis.

I bought a skein of Classic Elite Premiere, which I've never seen before. Dang, it's nice. It's wonderfully soft, and Rob declared that it "wasn't too scratchy", so I'll swatch it and see if I can make him some socks out of it.

When we left, Rob pointed out that this was a much friendlier shop. Indeed, it was.

*Neuharth (verb) - Even though he admits that he'd probably enjoy the movie "The Princess Bride", John Neuharth refuses to watch it just out of spite and because everybody else loves it. Hence, "to Neuharth".

That store must be completely naive to think that they wouldn't need reservations for the Harlot's visit.

Damn, girl, why you gotta edjumacate me with all this new vocabulary? I think my entire life is based on Neuharthing patterns, books, careers, etc. How did the AV sweater look knit up?

That is so strange... every time I've been to AP, they've been super nice. But now I must try out Stash!

Well, they're a pretty new store. But they're clearly Web-savvy (the Clapotis was a tip-off), so I was very surprised that they weren't already expecting zillions of Harlot Fanatics.

The AV sweater was stunning. It was in this vivid green yarn with very crisp stitch definition. The sleeves were to die for. It was definitely worth a visit just to see it!

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that I believe Stephanie will be coming to my shop "Yarn!" in Alameda on her tour. Her press agent is just getting the details together.

Thanks, Janis! That is great news for all of us Harlot groupies!
