Knitbloggers are cool!
Part 1
So I'm at work this morning and Erin says, "Oh, there's a check for you in your drawer." I say, "Cool, thanks" and go on trying to arrange some yarn in a pleasing configuration. Later, Nancy is discussing lunch options, and the following scene occurs:
(I am fussing with some Noro)
Erin (or Nancy, it's all a blur): Are you going to the bank at lunch?
Me: Um, no.
E (or N): You're not going to deposit your check?
Me: Nope, I'm good.
E (or N): You don't want to deposit the check that's in your drawer?
Me: No, Not right now. (thinking: dude, quit bugging me, I'm trying to think about this Noro.)
E (or N): Are you sure you don't need to deposit the check that's in your drawer?
Me: I wasn't planning on it. (thinking: have y'all been drinking?)
E (or N): Oh, I was thinking you might want to DEPOSIT THE CHECK THAT'S IN YOUR DRAWER.
Me: (thinking: Maybe there's something in my drawer besides my check) I think I'll take a look at my check.
(Nancy looks like she's about to pee her pants)
ANYWAY, in my drawer is (along with the check) a package wrapped up in our yellow tissue and tied with some Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool. Attached is a note that says "To Kate from your secret pal". I pick up the package and know instinctively that inside it is two skeins of Artyarns Supermerino in color 116, or, as I like to call it, 'Super Delicious Creamsicle'.
Me: Ummmm, whadda you mean "secret pal"?
Nancy: (squirming like a child on Christmas morning) It's from your secret pal!
Me: Ummm, my SP5 secret pal?
E (or N): Yep.
Me: Um, who? How? Where?
E (or N): We're not telling.
Me: Did she come in the store?
E (or N): We're not telling.
Me: Um, who? How? Where?
Erin and Nancy: (laughter)
Me: But it's my favorite yarn ever!
Erin and Nancy: WE KNOW.
So, THANKS, SECRET PAL! You totally rock! Not only did you bring me joy in an annoying "no room in the inn for all this Noro" moment, but, DANG, did you amuse my co-workers. I really thought Nancy was going to have a conniption fit.
Part 2
So late in the afternoon, this extremely pretty woman comes in and wanders around the store. She goes to check out, and Nancy asks her what she's going to make with all that Euroflax.
Extremely Pretty Woman: Well, I'm going to make this shirt...are you on the Web?
Nancy: Yeah.
EPW: Do you know Grumperina?
Nancy: Yeah.
Me: (nearly falls onto floor)
EPW: I'm making her TiVoli (side note: did you notice how I capitalized that? Sigh.) T-shirt.
Nancy: Wow, cool!
Me: GRUMPERINA IS MY IMAGINARY INTERNETS FRIEND!
EPW: Wow, are you a blogger?
Me: You bet!
(Nancy and I chime in with the names of our blogs)
Nancy: And you?
EPW: I'm NonaKnits.
Me and Nancy: DUDE! (or equivalent)
(Nancy and Nona then have animated discussion about the Nothing But a T-Shirt, which Nancy happens to be working on)
Me, Nancy and Nona: Knitbloggers are cool! (or equivalent)
So it was a pretty good day at work. I got paid to fondle yarn, I got way surprised by my SP, and I actually met an actual knitblogger. Rock on, Beavis!
Comments
Love, love, love your post! I'm reading it out loud to my husband -- I'm laughing really hard and he's looking at me with a fairly blank stare. Guess it's still kind of early.

Whoa, I didn't realize there are so many bloggers in/around Commuknity! I'm in there on a fairly regular basis... I should start keeping my eyes open instead of on yarn tunnel-vision ;).

sounds like a wonderful, wonderful day.

I haven't yet had a live knitblogger sighting, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
Your secret pal surprise sounds like it was a lot of fun for everyone!

That Supermerino is gorgeous. I finally found a local place that has it. I'm trying to think of what I could use it for - my mother would adore the (rightfully nicknamed) Creamsicle color.

Sorry we're pains! Nancy was the one peeing her pants in anticipation. I was merely the gift wrapper and the voice! Ha ha!...and ya, I wish we could have used the drinking excuse! Would have made the day a whole lot more fun!

BOTH of those stories just made my evening! Wow, that is so cool! Are you going to keep your eyes peeled now for this Secret Pal? She can stop by any day! Or maybe she called the store and placed an order and had your co-workers wrap it? It would drive me insane not to know! You know how your coworkers kept asking you about depositing the check? With the same persistence I would question them about SP5!
As for the other story, hehe, you're not my **imaginary** Internets friend, you're a totally real Internets friend!

That is so cool. I just emailed the link to this post to Ms. Grumpy, but I can see from your comments that she's already read it.
