do not attempt to find meaning in Duran Duran lyrics

That was the lesson of the day. I didn't have work, and I declined to go to the theatre, so Rob and I ran errands and stuff. I've been driving his car ever since the Footie became Hurty, so all my cds are in the player. I made a couple of new mix tapes (cds, but whatever) and we listened to them as we drove to get coffee, crap at Fry's, get lunch, to the Stanford Nordstrom, to Andronico's, home to drop off the groceries, to the Stoneridge (where the demons dwell) Nordstrom, to the Walnut Creek Nordstrom (Rob needed a shirt in a specific size), to the hipster Kebab Lounge, and then home via 24 to 880 to avoid the 20-mile backup due to a wildfire on 680 southbound.

We also learned not to attempt to find meaning in B-52's lyrics.

Anyhow, we had a dandy time. At the hipster Kebab Lounge, we discussed our respective lists of Movies You Never Have To Ask Us Twice To Watch (common items: Galaxy Quest, Dave, French Kiss, About a Boy, Love Actually, Bridget Jones' Diary, Office Space, Dazed and Confused, Wonder Boys, The Princess Bride, Ten Things I Hate About You, Swingers, A Fish Called Wanda). Apparently we were having a good time, because the waiter bought us some port after dinner because we were "the happiest couple in here". We were certainly the youngest couple in there at 7:30 on a Sunday. Usually it's packed with 20-something hipsters.

On the way home we listened to my Bad Mood tape (cd) and as the melodic strains of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" filled the car, Rob regaled me with the tale of his crowning achievement - the day he became the greatest Pop-A-Shot player in the whole universe. ("Well, that and I was the first Netrek Hockey Admiral ever.")

It was a very entertaining day.

When you name the band after a character in Barbarella, you give up all hope of writing meaningful lyrics. Witness: Girls On Film. I rest my case.

Well, actually, we discussed Girls on Film as one Duran Duran song where, while pointless to search for meaning, the intent is clear.

If you want meaningful lyrics, you'll need to listen to my new favorite musical Wicked! Reality sets back in indeed!

Um, the b52's Bushfire is deep enough to take a dip in. Nuff said on that one.

Lastly, what a wonderful day this must have been. Really Charming.
