Viva Italia!
So my parents are in Italy. Rome, today. My mom sent me this most excellent picture. It took me a split second to soak in the local flavor.

Self-Portrait Tuesday - Time (3)
Really, I got nothin'. This is me, after a difficult, but ultimately good phone call. After discussing MY FEELINGS, It was time for a catnap.

Yarn Ho
So I'm almost done with the front of Skully. It's going to add ten pounds to my frame, but it's going to be warm and cozy and way cool. So I was in the car, hiding out from the maids, and I got to an instruction I didn't quite understand.
Fortunately, in my knitting bag I had a skein of Misti Alpaca, my copy of Scarf Style and a pair of Brittany #6's that had conveniently just relinquished my mom's Going to Italy Scarf. What's a girl to do?
Holymarymotherofgod. This stuff is SO FREAKING SOFT. It just takes my breath away. I just want to rub it all over me. Oh, wait. Stop. Stick head in freezer. Breathe. Okay, drawbacks. It's a little splitty. I can live with that. Never mind. I'm in love.
Okay, here's my mom in her new scarf. It's fingering-weight Claudia and some Kidsmack Haze.
And here's dad, modeling my old Happiest Scarf on Earth (feather-and-fan stitch with some Artfibers Kyoto). He thought it was a little girly, but I thought it was way cosmopolitan. Just the thing for Italy.

stupid Hurty Jaw
My face hurt so much today that I didn't even want to knit. I'm going to break down and go find a TMJ specialist. The not being able to, like, chew is really pissing me off.

Self-Portrait Tuesday - Time (2)
Yet again, I failed to come up with something clever. I had a couple of ideas kicking around, but these ideas generally come to me when I'm drifting off to sleep. If only I could harness these, I'd be a big ole success. At something.
ANYWAY, here's me. It's time for bed. A week later, hiding out in my parents' camping trailer.

many WIPs and no photos
I left the cradle for my Sony camera (and my cell phone charger) at my parents' house, so this will be a post with words and music and signifying nothing.
I have about 14" of the front of Skully done. This is going to be one hell of a "fuck my figure, I'm moving to Alaska" sweater. I'm cruising along on the Bryspun circulars, which I love more than life itself.
My aunt Cindy (who was visiting the Orlanders along with Yvonne) knit about 20 rows of my umpteenth (okay, third) Harry Potter scarf. Ethan wants one, but he doesn't know it yet.
The sweet little baby bonnet from LMKG is close to being done, but I'm not picking up the edging stitches properly.
I got some Sock Garden in a delicious pink and yellow color, and immediately cast on Jaywalker. (all the cool kids are making them) Film at eleven.
Nathan allowed me to drag him to the (as far as I can tell) only yarn store in Sacramento yesterday. I bought some silk sock yarn and some (OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I NEED TO BE ALONE WITH THIS YARN) Misti Alpaca. I bought enough to make Interlocking Ballons from Scarf Style. I woulda cast on the second we got back to his house, but we had drinkin' to do, and, although I carry my needle case with me everywhere I go, I didn't actually have Scarf Style on me.

my little wood nymph
Maybe it's the eye of the beholder, but I think Ethan is the cutest kid I've ever seen.

Self-Portrait Tuesday - Time
This month's challenge is "time". I thought about this and thought about this, and I couldn't think of anything good because it was late and I was tired and it was time for bed.
Oh, wait. Time for bed.

honest.
I wasn't going to buy any yarn. Really, I wasn't. I just needed needles. I swear. I JUST NEEDED NEEDLES.
But TKS was having a sale! On ALCHEMY yarn! What was I supposed to do? I ask you. How was I supposed to resist this? (And the photo doesn't even come close to doing it justice.)
So I got two skeins. What do y'all think I should make with it? It's really calling out to be knitted. It doesn't want to go into my trophy yarn bowl.
Yarn: silk purse
Material: 100% silk
Gauge: 5 1/2 stitches = 1"
Recommended needle size: 6
Approx. yardage = 138 yards
Approx. weight = 50 grams

in the pink
Okay, I'm a joiner, I admit. But Project Spectrum is really cool, and not just because it starts out with my favorite color.
Here's the hat I just made, resting on the baby blanket, alongside the yummy red alpaca I got at stitches and the Kid Classic I got to make a baby bonnet with. I'm such a sucker for color.

maaaan
So I just finished (well, I still have to weave in the ends) both the pink angora hat and the Big Bad Baby Blanket. They both look great.
Trouble is, I want to cast something else on RIGHT NOW. I'm in a groove. Alas, the three things I want to start require: US10 1/2 straights, US0 dpns and knowledge of the cable cast-on. None of which I have. I'm sure I could probably figure out the last one, but I've already had two margaritas, and my attention span is, um, limited.
Curse the evil day. I can understand not owning a set of teeny tiny dpns, but 10.5 straights? Yeesh. And I call myself a knitter.

WIPs a-plenty
Well, it didn't get finished before Zoe got here, but I started it late. Here's a peek of the Big Bad Baby Blanket. Boy, do I heart this Claudia yarn.
The stripey angora hat was such a hit, that I decided to make another one. I picked up a couple skeins of Belangor angora at the Yarn Basket in Chico. It's soooo yummy. This is 100% angora, and it feels like knitting with cotton candy. Looks like it, too:
My Brooks Farm stash is staring at me longingly, but I'm being good.
