Good vs. Bucket of Boiled Ass
First, the good. The third stocking is gorgeous. I am inordinately pleased with myself, not just for choosing such perfect yarn, but creating an actual pattern for something. Even the ladies at the yarn store ooh'd and aah'd. (Oh, and remember how I used to think Article Pract was staffed by Snooty McSnootersons? I've totally changed my mind. The girls there are all charming and helpful. And they still have great yarn.)
But I digress. Check this out:
This isn't a great photo of the finished piece, but it's not a bad color representation. Anyway, I freakin' love it. Three down, six to go.
And on that note, behold the Buckets of Boiled Ass. This is what Grace called her scarf made of white yarn and medium-hue mohair. Sadly, that's what all my mohair combinations look like: Boiled Ass.
I really want a couple of the stockings to have a little sparkle to them. Naturally, I grabbed the white and the red colors of Kidsmack Night. Hm. Not so great. I remembered that I have the new pink Kidsmack Night, too. Again, shot down.

Granted, the red Kidsmack on the red Manos is really pretty. I think it will work nicely for stripes in the body of a stocking. It's a little more subtle than I'd wanted, but I still like it. I tried the white and then the pink, too. BOILED ASS, and you can't tell the pink from the white. Try, I dare you. And if that's not bad enough, check this out:
I cast on for the cuff last night with the white Lamb's Pride and the red Kidsmack. Having had a couple of drinks, I convinced myself it looked pretty good. In the morning light, however, I came to my senses. BOILED ASS! With FUNGUS! So I decided to swatch. The white on white is invisible, and the pink just looks like the white got washed with something red.
AND to make matters worse, the gorgeous variegated red Manos of the cuff at the top is too close in color to the other red Manos I have to make a similar variegated/solid/variegated stripe on another sock. I think it will want a brighter red.
What does this mean? Looks like I'll be washing my hair, getting out my passport and heading across the water to the City. I think the people at ImagiKnit are starting to think I'm a little insane. Can you blame them?

I think BOILED ASS with FUNGUS is a pretty useful descriptor. I like it better than AD.
