Happy Birthday, Zoe!

It's certain that I'm biased somewhat, but it strikes me that Zoe is one gorgeous baby.

Happy Haunts Materialize

You'd THINK that by now (we got back from SoCal on Monday night), I'd have "Grim Grinning Ghosts" un-stuck from my head. Fat chance. I blame whatever made us be stuck in the Haunted Mansion's graveyard scene for ten minutes.

Disneyland was incredibly busy, but we had a darned fine time. See?

Off to my sewing class, then home to pack for the short trip up to the parentals' for Zoe's birthday party. It boggles my mind that a whole year has gone by already. It's been quite the year. It's been hard and weird and different, but mostly very, very good. And to wind it all up, today I am officially divorced.

Here's to, I don't know, everything. *clink*

off again

Last weekend was freakin' great. If you ever get a chance to stay at the Benbow Inn, DO. It *almost* edges the Salish Lodge out as "World's Most Romantical Hotel".

There was, however, a lot of driving - on Highway One. This always seems like a great idea, and it is, don't get me wrong. I don't think there's a prettier stretch of road maybe in the whole world, but the driver is under a lot of pressure not to, like, die.

So it was an exhausting weekend. What are we doing this weekend to recover, you may ask? Well, I'm about to head up to the storage unit (after I pack) and drag out the eight million boxes belonging to Nathan's daughters which had been stored in their attic in Sacramento (the boxes, not the daughters). Then Nathan's going to meet me with a pickup we're renting, and we're driving to San Diego (or as far as we can get tonight). Tomorrow, we'll dump the stuff off, go to a furniture store to pick up the vanity we bought on eBay, then (because we'll deserve a treat) have dinner with the girls and drive back north via Disneyland. We'll spend Sunday and maybe a little bit on Monday with Herr Mouse, then drag our asses back home on Monday afternoon.

Don't get me started on NEXT weekend.

Muddled, not stirred.

Consider the weekend begun. Tomorrow we're going to the Hillsborough Antique Show, mostly to look at jewelry to go with Nathan's new suit for the Very Important Event. Then we're headed north in the alleged rain to Eureka (where Nathan has a hearing on Tuesday) for the weekend.

Should be a good time. Will keep you posted.

A Tale of Two Dye Lots

Nathan's asked me to make something for a friend of his who's having a baby, and so of course I leaped at the chance to make another Big Bad Baby Blanket. This time, it's for a boy, so I chose the "Sea Dreams" colorway of Claudia Hand Painted. Imagiknit had four skeins each from two different dye lots:

Isn't that wacky? Since the yarn's going to be double-stranded, it doesn't matter. I've got six rows of seed stitch done and it looks fab.

It was a very trying visit to Imagiknit. I barely escaped with my life (and my checking account). First, they had laceweight Malabrigo. I actually squealed when I saw it. Then there was the new hand-painted Misti Alpaca. I nearly swooned. And then...100% silk laceweight from Claudia. It's unbelievably beautiful. I can only imagine the shawls it might make.

Really, I do NOT know how I got out of there without buying anything.

cliche du jour

Before the last weekend of Faire last October, I was SO ready to be done for the season. I haven't missed it at all since then until I tagged along to a Minstrels rehearsal this Sunday. Aaah, it was nice.

I got a boatload of knitting done, hampered slightly by George the Cat, who loves to eat yarn. And who wouldn't want to eat Misti Alpaca, I ask you?

not blue

Okay, okay, the Purple Paisley Shawl is not blue, but MAN, OH, MAN, do you dig my new stitch markers?

I got them from Miss Purl's Etsy shop. I love them. They are just heavy enough that they jump from needle to needle without any effort, and they don't snag. And they are SO CUTE! I want MORE MORE MORE!
