one sock down

One to go. I dig the way this sock turned out. It fits me better than any sock I've ever made - I went up a needle size for the cuff (and used the sewn bind-off the pattern called for) and finally I have a sock that doesn't strangle my pudgy ankles.

The first couple of rounds of the toe with the nasty make ones were a bitch, and the heel was troublesome, but I'd make this sock again with some modifications. (I mean, besides the mate, which I've already cast on for.) I'd start with a toe that's 6 or 8 stitches across, not four. I do not have pointy feet. And I'd make the sock that's ribbed all the way from the toe to the ankle. (Reading is fundamental, kids.)

Because I'm not IK, here's a picture of the bound-off edge. It's the nicest, stretchiest edge ever.

Yay! Sock! Just in time for summer!

p.s. I have not stopped working on the pink dustbunny shawl, honest.

You make me feel lazy for just buying my socks.

Lovely socks, and it helps to read along with another knitter's struggles. I'm a wanna-be sock knitter who hasn't gotten through a pattern yet without one of those darned learning curves. (Why do they call them curves? Why not learning mountains? Learning Matterhorns?)

I've done toe-up and cuff-down sock patterns, and I like cuff down knitting much better. (My first pair of socks with a twisted-8 caston gave me fits, but it was a beautiful toe.) The only benefit I see from toe-up knitting is that you aren't so screwed when you run out of yarn (ask me how I know ... there's a sock of discontinued yarn with a peek-a-boo toe opening, sadly marinating in my to-be-frogged pile).

Like you, I don't have pointy feet. Mine, in fact, are probably more like swimfins -- narrow at the heel and w-i-d-e at the toes. Let's see a pattern for that, eh?

One other comment -- silly girl -- lovely ankles!

I recently revived my own knitblog at a new URL, LoopyKnits.com, and added yours to my blogroll. Hope you don't mind!
