dogvercation

I was finishing up the laundry today and I realized we don't have a Faire to go to for a month! Frabjous day! I don't know what we're going to do with ourselves for the next couple of weekends. (Not that I don't like going to Faire, but sometimes it's...challenging.)

Hey, I could knit. What a concept.

off again

We're packed and ready (well, not mentally) to get up and go to Sacramento tomorrow morning. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that I don't melt from the heat/get stung by another insect/kill anybody this weekend.

ransack!

Seriously, the apartment looks like it was attacked by a gang of marauding musical pirates. It is a disaster. There are clothes and hats and guns and boots and percussion instruments *everywhere*.

Today I get to clean up the best I can, decide which of the items of clothing get priority in the washing machine (I only have enough quarters for one load), pack up my street clothes for the week, then get in the car and head to the City to get Nathan (and our wine) and head up to Chico/Redding/Eureka for the rest of the week. Then on Friday, I get to unpack briefly, wash and iron all of the rest of the faire clothes and get re-packed to get up at the steaming butt crack of morning on Saturday to go to Sacramento for another weekend of faire, this time in vaguely scenic but horrifically hot Fair Oaks.

I guess I'd better get moving. (Besides all of this, there's something new and fun in KOL today that I'd really like to play with, and I'm just to the heel of my Flicker sock, which is just begging to be finished. Oy.)

Aren't we cute pirates, though?

(Seriously, this pirate thing was the best weekend of faire I've ever had. I can't *wait* until next year.)

that was the end of the woman in the wood

Oh, my gosh. The pirate festival was the most fun day at faire I've ever had, ever. If you aren't busy tomorrow (Sunday), come on down to Scenic Vallejo. I can't promise I'll only be wearing a towel and someone's (names deleted to protect the innocent) underwear on my head, but I guarantee you'll have fun. And you *won't* have to give me a $40 tip just for smiling coyly at you, but I *will* take it.

socks that make you go "hmmmm", part 2

Maybe it is just the heat melting my tiny little brain, but is this festive orange STR yarn too busy for this pattern? It's "Flicker", by the fabulously talented and helpful Cookie A.

excuses

So I haven't blogged for a few days because we were up at Tahoe and there was no wireless in the cabin. Plus, I would have been too drunk to blog.

I didn't blog or knit yesterday because I discovered that I'd carelessly thrown my camera/Minstrels CDs/Nathan's tambourine/various shite into my basket on top of my knitting and one or more of those various items had snapped TWO of my sock needles in half. So I was too crabby to knit (or blog) yesterday. Also, the new Sims2 expansion set arrived yesterday and I sort of played it all day. Plus, I was busy doing the laundry and cleaning boots and stuff. Also, there was all that TV to watch.

Maybe I will knit today. I have already not gotten off to a good start.

gauge is for chumps

Well, the pink dustbunny shawl is done. It took more yarn than the pattern called for, which I thought was weird since I was using the specified yarn on the specified needles. Turns out my gauge is wrong. Way wrong.

The shawl is too big to block. I rinsed it out and attempted to stretch it out over my ginormous blocking board, and it's TOO BIG to fit on it. Seriously. I can hold the cast-on edge up to my chin and the point touches the floor. I don't own a tape measure that's long enough to measure the wingspan in one stretch of the tape. It's wider than my queen-sized bed.

Gaaaah. I'm not sure what to do. Move to a larger apartment, I guess.
