Harry Potter and the Blackwork of Doom

Here's what I did yesterday:

border.jpg

I would have started it on Saturday, only I was reading You-Know-What. I wish Nathan would finish reading it so I can talk about it openly (and re-read the sucker). It sure was a satisfying conclusion to the series, and I'm genuinely sorry there won't be any more.

On a happy note, there WILL be knitting done today - I guarantee. Nathan's taking me to Stitch-n-Pitch night at Pac Bell (wait, is that what it's called now?) park. I think I'll work on the languishing second Flicker sock. It's orange and everything.

me? swatch?

I hate swatching. I guess that's what I've been doing, though.

This is some 28-count evenweave and some DMC cotton that I un-plied. It seemed awfully cramped (the body of that acorn is practically black), so I counted two squares as one, and I like the result a lot better. (Sorry about the sucky photo.)

and don't call me "crafty"

I'm not sure what possessed me to do this, but look what I did.

blackwork.jpg

All the cool kids at faire seem to be able to do blackwork, so I figured I ought to try it. I started with the acorns at the bottom (you can see where I screwed up), and it was pretty easy, so I moved up to the one at the top. It was a bit more difficult, but it was still do-able. Now I'm practicing with some thinner thread and fabric with a higher thread count. It's pretty cool.

And that's why there has been no knitting for the last couple of days. My second Flicker sock keeps giving me the evil eye. It had better watch itself, or it's going to find itself covered with embroidery. HA.

obligatory blog du jour (er, semaine)

Where the heck did this week go? We had company a couple of times, and I guess we sort of drove to Bakersfield and back on Saturday to see Nathan's grandmother get married, and yesterday and today was spent driving to and from Eureka.

At any rate, I'm pooped. I haven't been knitting much, either. I confess, I'm trying my hand at something else of the crafty nature. Tomorrow I'll take a picture and elaborate upon said crafty thing.

Until then, though, I'm going to sit here on my butt and drink a martini and watch some TV. So there.

shake your groove thing

Here's today's delicious and photographable cocktail from The Art of the Bar, the "Peaches and Herb". It's peaches and sage and brandy and other good things. Mmm, summery peachy goodness.

p.s. I *did* knit today. I worked some on a hat while at the Coliseum watching the A's get their asses kicked by the Mariners. Muahahaha. And I *am* still working on the Flicker socks. The first one is done, and I'm on the first pattern repeat of the second. It's awesome, I just haven't photographed it. Really. Honest.

hang on, little tomato

Gosh, Grace is cool. That's all I'm sayin'. In her honor, here's a picture of the newest, greatest cocktail to grace (ha ha) our household. It's got Sweet 100 tomatoes, tequila, cilantro, and a not-so-wee bit of habanero in it. Yum, yum, yum.

god save the queen

There's nothing to make you feel all patriotic and stuff like a fine English cocktail. Mmm, Pimm's Cup.
