over the hump

Four weekends down, two to go. This last one was quite nice. Martin scheduled us for an after-hours ale stand gig on Saturday, which I was *not* keen to do when I heard about it (largely because all I had to wear was my Faire costume and a pair of pajamas), but once I got my ass back on site, I had a blast. It was a sweet, intimate little gig with no riffraff, and the smaller, better audience loved the set.

It sure makes the minor (and major) annoyances worthwhile when you get an appreciative audience. There's this one wonderful older woman, who's a Faire staple, who comes to all the Minstrels' shows and is probably our biggest fan. TWICE now when singing a particular song in the street, she's been watching and has been moved to tears. Boy, it's hard to sing when you're choked up with gratitude.

One of my jobs at this Faire is to work in the actors' inn, dispensing cold drinks to thirsty thespians. I wasn't expecting to love this job, but it's a surprisingly pleasant and relaxing hour or half hour every day. A very talented photographer took this picture of me last Sunday, and I think it sums it all up.

That's a good picture, Kate!

As a musician, I know what you mean about performing for an audience that actually appreciates the time and effort you've put into it.

That IS a lovely shot!

I stumbled across your site with a google search for "cat", "water", and "laptop". . . . looking for a photo-link to my own sad tale - although my computer story ends mostly happy (battery only is fried)!

I'm finishing my dissertation (philosophy/law/theology) - but am looking forward to resuming life in 18 days (and counting), which usually includes knitting, singing, old music groups (recorder, guitar & hand drums), but by then I will have missed this year's Rennaisance Festival in Maryland. 'There's a lot of sadness in the world' as my father used to say. Well, maybe next year. . . .

Nice to meet you! Glad to have stumbled across you. I'm pretty boring these days, but hope to pick up a bit when the dissertation is put to bed. Do drop by anyway, though, won't you?

all the best.

I like it too when the audience appreciates what I'm trying to do, no matter the venue. So satisfying too.
Nice pic.

That is a spectacular photo of you! I always appreciate and admire people who take wonderful photos that look just like them. You make me wish that I was actually participating in Faire still. xx
